Grace Arlene Regan

August 28, 1935 — March 16, 2021

Grace Arlene Regan passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at The Ursuline Center surrounded by her loving family. Arlene was born in Liberty Center, OH on August 28, 1935 to Raymond and Dorothy (Hermann) McCabe. During her early school years, Arlene developed many close friendships that lasted her entire life. Upon graduation, Arlene was gifted with the choice of two full scholarships – one to BGSU to study music and piano and the other to St. Vincent School of Nursing. She chose the path that became her life’s calling…helping, caring, and putting other’s needs before her own. While studying under the guidance of the Grey Nuns, Arlene made the decision to convert to Catholicism, and live her life according to the Roman Catholic Church. She met Robert Regan (while caring for his aunt), and said “yes” to a life of raising a family and building a future based on their shared faith. The result of their love was 7 children and 9 grandchildren, with never a dull moment in their Irish Catholic household. Arlene continued her career as a nurse while raising her family. She worked as a Floor Charge Nurse at St. Vincent Hospital, and then at various physician offices throughout her career. She instilled in her children the importance of an education, a strong work ethic, and living a life that is most fulfilling to yourself while helping others. Arlene’s love of music remained with her throughout her life. She was a member of the Gesu Choir, Toledo Choral Society, and was the cantor for Mass at the Ursuline Center for many years. She played the piano beautifully, and there are many memories of her singing at home or gathering the family to sing with her while she tapped the pedals of her favorite instrument. Every birthday, holiday, or special event meant you would receive a card from Arlene. She would visit Hallmark at the beginning of each month to make sure everyone’s special day would be acknowledged and remembered. Arlene made an impact on everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by her children Mary Beth (Steve) Alberti, Meg Regan, Maureen (Rob) Beachler, Jenny Regan, Tom Regan, Colleen (Steve) Oliver, and Patrick (Valerie) Regan. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Nicholas Regan, Alex (Allie), Lauren, and Jack Alberti, Kasidy and Jillian Glore, and Brady and Ryan Regan, as well as her dear friend, Sister Coletta McAllister. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, granddaughter Molly, her parents, and siblings, Betty, Wayne, Bernard and Merlin. The family wishes to thank everyone at the Ursuline Center for the wonderful care given to Arlene during her entire stay. Visitation will be at Gesu Catholic Church, 2049 Parkside Blvd on Saturday, March 20th from 9:00 am – 11:30 am. Mass of the Celebration of Arlene’s life begins at 11:30 am with Internment at Resurrection Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arlene’s memory to Gesu Church/School, Notre Dame Academy, St. Francis de Sales High School or the Toledo Choral Society.
