Gordon A. Royer “Shorty”, 88, of Holland, Ohio passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, June 13, 2016. He was born on July 31, 1927 in Ironville, Ohio to Thurman C. and Lillian (Ganslen) Royer and he married Marva Jean Moneghan on February 7, 1948 in Holgate, Ohio. Shorty proudly served his country by enlisting in the National Guard, 148th Infantry out of Bowling Green, Ohio. He was a former member of Holland Volunteer Fire Department and Retired Fireman’s Association. Shorty was a mechanic for many years for various businesses and went on to own and run Shorty’s Garage for several years. He later went on to drive truck for Peak Transportation before retiring in 1992 and working maintenance for Speiker Realty, retiring in 2006. Never one to sit still, he enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping and playing pool whenever he could. Shorty couldn’t resist a good garage sale or flea market and could never pass one without making a purchase. Shorty is survived by his children, Vicky L. DiFrancia, Dennis L. Royer (Sandra), Deborah E. McClellan (Joseph LaJune) and Sheila A. Ryan (Donald). He was extremely proud of and loved dearly each and every one of his 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thurman and Lillian, his wife of 49 years, Marva, and 7 siblings. Friends will be received on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M in Neville Funeral Home, Southwest Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, Ohio 43528 (419-865-8879) where a Celebration of Shorty’s Life will be held following the visitation at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association and Alzheimer’s Association.
