Gordon James Oliver, age 71, passed away November 19th in his home surrounded by his family. Gordy was a kind, generous and thoughtful soul whose legacy will live on in the lives of his family and friends. Gordy was a Perrysburg resident most of his life. He graduated from Perrysburg High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from The University of Toledo where he played volleyball. He had a diversified career as an educator, salesman and truck driver. Gordy spent most of his free time with tools in his hands. He enjoyed woodworking, welding, and just all-around general fabrication...if you could think it, he could build it! He was a long-time member of Perrysburg Boat Club and his greatest passion was restoring boats and building docks and boat ramps. He enjoyed time on the water with family and friends. He was a multi-sport athlete in his younger years and enjoyed coaching his sons in volleyball and basketball. He was a sports enthusiast and his favorite athletes to watch were his grandkids. Gordy is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Diana (Gilson), sons Jayson (Tammy) of New Hudson, MI; Bryan of Perrysburg; daughter Carrie (Matthew) Fister of Düsseldorf, Germany; grandkids Ayden and Ellie; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Jean Oliver and brothers Melvin, Virgil and Dennis. Friends will be received on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 from 3-8pm at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) where funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at 2:00pm. The family also invites friends to gather with them in celebrating Gordy’s life at Perrysburg Boat Club (111 Water Street, Perrysburg) on Wednesday, the 24th at 3:00pm.
