Gloria J. Remy

Gloria J. Remy, age 90, of Toledo, passed away March 14, 2018 at Oakleaf Village. She was born June 26, 1927 in Watseka, IL to the late Ralph and June (Phelps) Giles. She was a 1945 graduate of Watseka Community High School, attended Ward-Belmont in Nashville, TN and graduated from Northwestern University with a bachelor degree in education. Gloria taught school in Sylvania (Hillview and Whiteford Elementaries) for 27 years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International and a life member of the Lucas Co. Retired Teachers Association and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. Gloria was a member of the Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo Zoo, Toledo Botanical Gardens, and a life member of the Toledo Metroparks. She served on the Board of Volunteers at Wildwood Metropark and assisted with fund raising activities. Gloria and her husband Spud enjoyed fishing and camping trips to Michigan, Minnesota and Canada. They traveled to many foreign countries and through most of the United States. Her favorite trip was a safari in Kenya with the Toledo Zoo. She is survived by her brother, David Giles, nieces and nephews. Gloria was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Spud Remy and sister, Sue Giles Marshall. Services and burial for both Spud and Gloria will take place at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rochester, IN in April. Memorials are suggested to the Toledo Zoo or Wildwood Preserve Metropark.
