Gloria D. Bigelow, 96, of Perrysburg, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 13, 1929, to Ori E. and Velma D. (Wadsworth) Ellis in Toledo, Ohio. Gloria worked at Haughton Elevator and later for 19 years at Owens-Illinois in both the International and Plastics Division as an Administrative Assistant and Sales Correspondent. She graduated from Libbey High School where she met and later married her high school sweetheart.
Gloria, a devoted mother and grandmother, cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an amazing cook and could often be found in her country kitchen making them her famous turtle pancakes or legacy Christmas cookies and chicken noodle soup. Her family was the joy of her life, and she enjoyed all family celebrations, decorating for the holidays, creating family traditions and no one left her kitchen without an armful of leftovers, big hugs and her "I love you to the moon and back" reminder.
Gloria loved the outdoors and was an avid gardener. She spent many hours creating beautiful flower gardens that bloomed early spring to late fall on the family farm. Long walks by the woods, safari rides with her grandchildren, enjoying the wildlife of various birds, ducks and deer along with many family pets, running with excitement through the leaves and jumping in the pond were among her favorite outdoor adventures.
She was a woman of deep abiding faith throughout her entire life and instilled that firm foundation in her family. She shared her faith by teaching Sundy School classes for over 20 years at St. Lucas Lutheran Church where she enjoyed Sunday services and was a member for many years and later at Grace Methodist Church in Perrysburg. While Gloria loved and sang many kinds of music, she loved old hymns, and her favorite was "in the Garden." Her faith was exemplified through the love and compassion she shared with everyone who was blessed to love or know her and her love made a difference in the lives of all she touched.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack D. Bigelow and sisters Lorna Dee Hanicq and Patricia Battig. She is survived by Son, Randy D. (Colleen M) Bigelow, Daughter, Carrie S. (Kenneth D.) Herr, grandchildren, Hannah M. and Noah D. Bigelow, Brian D. (Lindsay A.) Herr, David A. Herr and three great-grandchildren. Family and Friends are welcome at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home in Perrysburg, Ohio, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for visitation, with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Rd, Perrysburg, Grace Methodist Church, 601 E. Boundary St. Perrysburg, Ohio or to a charity of the donor's choice.
