Glenn E. Swartzlander

Glenn E. Swartzlander, age 83, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 at the Toledo Hospital. Glenn was born November 17, 1929 to Gilbert and Lillian Swartzlander in a house on the corner of Schneider Road and Byrne Road in Toledo. He was a resident of Toledo for most of his life until moving to Sylvania in his later years. Glenn was a veteran of both the National Guard and the Marine Corp. He worked as a pipefitter for Columbia Gas for 29 years. In his earlier years, Glenn enjoyed family trips, camping, and lots of fishing. Glenn was preceded in death by his loving wife, Doris, who passed away in 2000; and his son, James Swartzlander. He is survived by his children, Dale Terri Swartzlander, Gary Swartzlander, Vicki Detmers Robert Barnes. John Swartzlander, and Tamara Bruce Bates; 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and his loving sister, Edith Rohr of Columbus, OH whom he loved dearly. His family meant the world to him. Glenn also leaves behind his best friend and sweetheart that he cherished, Agnes Gaylor. Visitation will be on Thursday at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd. from 10:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park where the Northwood VFW Post will conduct services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association of Northwest Ohio, 2500 N.
