Glenn H. Irwin passed away on February 17, 2021. Glenn was born on May 2, 1930 to Ray and Leita (Holcomb) Irwin in Holland, Ohio. He and Emily (Minneman) were united in marriage on August 20, 1966 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Maumee, Ohio. He will be missed by his wife Emily and daughters Julie (Ben) Matheny and Lois (Cliff) Mentrup, and granddaughters Dayle and Erin Matheny and Emily Mentrup and grandson George Glenn Mentrup. Glenn was a graduate of Libbey High School in Toledo and held a degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Toledo. He assisted in the design and operation of industrial furnaces both domestically and internationally while employed by Surface Combustion, Owens Illinois and Toledo Engineering (TECO). In his early days working as an engineer, he spent eight months living in Pisa, Italy. He also spent two years in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corp. at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland and The Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. Glenn was a smart, kind and loving man who was always willing to help someone in need. He spent many weeks each year traveling for his work as an engineer, visiting 27 countries in his lifetime. Yet he still found time to be involved in the lives of his two daughters and rarely missed a school performance or piano recital. He also spent hours each summer in his backyard garden, growing everything from sweet corn to rhubarb and peonies. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Mary Jane (Richard) Bethel, Dorothy (Roy) Wood, and infant Lois Irwin and brothers Melvin (Betty) Irwin, Don Williams and Fred (Winifred) Irwin. Glenn was a member of the Holland Free Methodist Church, and subsequently St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Maumee and Epiphany Lutheran Church of Toledo. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 10 A.M. until the time of service at 12 P.M. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 915 N. Reynolds Road, Toledo. Memorial contributions may be made to Epiphany Lutheran Church of Toledo or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home.
