Glenn Allen Iossi

December 8, 1926 — May 25, 2015

Glenn Allen Iossi went on to a new beginning when he died May 25, 2015, having received exceptional care from the memory care unit at Kingston of Sylvania and Hospice of NW Ohio.  He was born Dec. 8, 1926 in Davenport, IA, served with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific in 1945 and graduated from Chicago Technical College in 1949.  He began his career in Mechanical Engineering at J. I. Case in IA and continued with Dana Corp in IN and was transferred to Toledo where he traveled internationally to research acquisition sites in Europe, Japan, Korea, Mexico and South America.  He continued a second career with British Petroleum and retired January, 1990. Glenn’s retirement years included multiple volunteer activities that sparked his spirit of adventure.  He spent 5 weeks as a Methodist Volunteer in Mission in the Caribbean carrying his duffle bag loaded with tools to rebuild damage caused by Hurricane Hugo, as well as many stateside projects.  He was active locally and beyond with Habitat for Humanity builds.  Glenn spent months in Costa Rica advising business development for Executive Service Corps.  He was also a Retired Senior Volunteer Person  helping teach 5th graders where he was a role model grandfather figure to the students. His great love and appreciation of nature and the outdoors were reflected in his gardening skills.  He created a show place which Helen called a Labor of Love.  He labored and she loved it. Glenn’s favorite hobby was fishing in ponds, streams, lakes and oceans.  When asked he would always say fishing was good,  catching “iffy”.  He enjoyed friends as a member of Mericle Farley Trout Club where he fished and helped stock the pond. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, U.S. Navy League – Toledo Erie Island Council, ASTME professional society, Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo Zoo and many philanthropic organizations. He was preceded in death by son, Stephen Harris Iossi, and daughter Mary Ruth Gaffney (Brian J.)  Surviving are his wife, Helen of 64 years, sons David Iossi and Paul Iossi (Sharon),  eight grandchildren and one great grandson, Ronan Michael Callan. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Epworth United Methodist Church, 4855 W. Central Ave, Toledo, OH 43615, where visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m.  The U.S. Navy will provide military honors.
