Glenn J. Ames, age 55, professor, scholar and author, died on October 14, 2010, of cancer. Glenn received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1987. Glenn was a professor of history at The University of Toledo for the past 20 years. During that time he published widely regarded books and articles which were focused on the subjects of early modern Europe and the history of European expansion. Glenns passions in life were, foremost, his children Miranda, age 16 and Ethan, age 14; his work; his colleagues; his travels throughout the world; his joy of cooking and camaraderie with his friends; and his passion for the issues of the world. In addition to his children, he will be sorely missed by his mother, Janet E. Ames, his brothers, Gregory, and his wife, Wendy, and George, and his wife, Debbie, his Rhode Island family and his friends, too many to list, in Toledo, Rhode Island, Portugal and India. He is predeceased by his father, George E. Ames. Friends may visit the family on Sunday from 3 to 8 PM. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., west of Corey Rd.. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a charity of the donors choice.
