Gilbert Alvarado, the beloved patriarch of the Alvarado family, was called home to the Lord on March 25, 2026. He passed away peacefully at his residence just as he had always wished: within the comfort of his beloved home, surrounded by the prayers and presence of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Born in San Marcos, Texas, on February 4, 1941, to Dionesio and Augustina (Hernandez) Alvarado, Gilbert was a man defined by his tireless work ethic and his many God-given talents. He dedicated 30 years of service to AP Parts before his retirement, yet his industrious spirit never rested. A visionary from a young age, Gilbert ventured into real estate and took great pride in maintaining his rental properties.
Whether it was working the land gardening, tending to his farm animals or restoring and painting cars Gilbert found beauty in labor. And his family loved when he lifted his voice and guitar in praise during Sunday Mass.
Gilbert is now reunited in the Heavenly Kingdom with his soulmate and wife of 59 years, Margie (Muñiz) Alvarado, who preceded him in death in 2019. He was also preceded by his beloved grandson, Gabriel Edel; and his siblings, Charlie, Julia, Simon Johnny Alvarado, Camilo and Ruben Fuentez.
His legacy of love continues through his six children, who were his greatest pride, Vicky (Ray), Susan (David), Gilbert, Edward (Jauncy), Denise (Diego), and David.
He was the Grandpa (a.k.a. Catpaw) to 13 grandchildren, Elisea, Raymond, Nicole, Michael, Brittany, David, Marisela, Serena, Alexis, Gabrielle, Christian, and Seth; and a doting great-grandfather to 12 great-grandchildren who were the light of his later years.
Family and friends may visit Sunday, March 29 from 3-6 pm at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. The Funeral Mass will be Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11 am at Little Flower Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
