Gertrude A. Trudy Thomas, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, November 7, 2010. Aunt Trudy was born November 21, 1911, in Toledo, Ohio, to Carrie and Gordon A. Hopkins Sr. A graduate of Waite High School and The University of Toledo, she remained at U.T. as an employee for over 50 years and retired from the position of Associate Registrar of the University in the early 1970s. Aunt Trudy was a life long member of Trinity Episcopal Church and served as secretary of the Episcopal Church Women for many years. She was Area President of the ECW Deanery and served as Trinitys historian for many years. Additionally, she was one of the founders of the Next to New shop at the church. Trudy was a long time volunteer at Riverside Hospital overseeing the operation of that gift shop for several years. The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Elizabeth Scott Community for their love and care of Aunt Trudy during her final years. Aunt Trudy was preceded in death by her husband, Dale E. Thomas; her brother, Gordon A. Hopkins, Jr. and her great-great-nephew, Jesse Hopkins. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Florence H. Hopkins; nephews, William and Pamela Hopkins and John and Martha Hopkins; as well as five great-nephews and nieces and five great-great-nephews and nieces. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave., where services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with interment to follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.
