Gertrude “Trudy” A. (Hawkins) Knapik, age 98, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2022 at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, OH. She was born on June 21, 1924 in Toledo, OH, the daughter of Earl and Erna Hawkins.
Trudy was a loving and caring mother and grandmother and a loyal friend. She enjoyed crafting, reading, cooking, traveling, bowling and spending time with her family and friends. She worked at Square-D company as an executive secretary. After retiring in 1988, she moved to Largo, FL where she appreciated living near her sister and family for 13 years. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
Trudy is survived by her children Kathie (Ben) Padilla of Sarasota, FL; Dave (Sue) Knapik of Sylvania, OH; and Karla (Jay) Kline of Ft. Myers, FL; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and her sister Joyce Naumann. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother William “Bill” Hawkins.
The family would like to thank the nurses, aides and staff of Rosary Care Center and many of the Sisters of St. Francis for their kindness and loving care.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Swan Lake Mausoleum at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations to the Sisters of St. Francis of Sylvania, OH.
