Geraldine L. Yeager

July 28, 1919 — March 25, 2022

Geraldine L. (Chase) Yeager, age 102, passed away on March 25, 2022, at Ohio Living Swan Creek Health Center. Geri was born in Toledo, Ohio to Homer and Pauline (Plath) Chase on July 28, 1919. She graduated from Libbey High School and attended the University of Toledo. There she met her future husband, Charles. They were married in 1942, and moved to Birmingham, Alabama where Chuck served in the Army. Their first son, Bruce was born there. Shortly after returning to Toledo, her son Ken was born. Geri soon became busy caring for her two young boys. On her 100 th birthday, when asked what the favorite part of her life was, she replied, “Raising my two boys.”

Geri had delayed finishing her degree until her boys were older. In 1960, she returned to the university and graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Education degree. Her son, Bruce had graduated from DeVilbiss High School the night before. She loved to tell people that they graduated the same year.

Geri taught second grade at Spring School for the next 20 years, retiring in 1983. She loved teaching, but was happy to retire at the same time as her husband. She and Chuck spent winters in Florida. During their retirement years, they also traveled to Europe, took several cruises and many trips all over the United States.

Geri has been a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for more than 80 years. She was a member of many organizations, including Flower Hospital and The Ability Center Auxiliaries. She sat on the board of the YWCA, the University of Toledo Alumni Association, and the Toledo Botanical Gardens, where she spent many years volunteering.

Left to cherish Geri’s memory are her sons, Bruce (Christine), Ken (Patricia); grandchildren, Jennifer (Steve) Wicker, Scott (Lisa) Yeager, Kimberly (Nick) Smith, Kelly (Jeff) Morrow, Kerry (Nick) Baker, Kacey (Brian) Seibert and eleven great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was Chuck, her loving husband of 73 years. Geri’s family would like to thank the staff of Ohio Living Swan Creek and Ohio Living Hospice for all of the care and support they have provided.

Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, April 2, 2022, from 12pm -1pm at the Walker Funeral Home (5155 W. Sylvania Ave) with a funeral service beginning at 1pm. Entombment will be private.
