Geraldine Marie Ottney

Geraldine Marie Ottney, age 90, passed away on September 28, 2021, at The Grove in Oakleaf Village (Sylvania, OH) following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born in Detroit, MI on November 15,1930 and moved to Ohio in 1963. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Thomas Ottney, and four children - daughters Ann Brint, Lorraine Ottney, Dr. Beverly Scholler (Trent) and son Ronald Ottney (Svetlana) of Boyne City, MI. She is also survived by grandsons Steven Scholler, Eric Scholler, Joshua Brint and granddaughters Jessica Brint Snyder (Steve), Maria Scholler and Nicole Ottney. Gerry worked in the family business as a bookkeeper when Ohio Air Filter was formed. She was a devoted wife and mother; she wisely guided her children through their various stages of life. She was especially good at money management and helping her children with school pro-jects. She focused on their education and guided them towards career choices while keeping house, cooking, bargain shopping and being the perfect hostess. She loved a good party! Gerry also enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband and family. She will be deeply missed by all. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, OH (419-841-2422). A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, October 2, 2021, beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the wonderful caretakers at The Grove where she resided the past 4 years, especially Drew who was so caring and patient with her. A special thanks also to the staff at Ohio Living Hospice for their guidance and support. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
