Gerald “Jerry” Wysocki, loving husband, father and friend, passed away with grace and dignity on April 25, 2022. He was born to his parents Ollie and Pearl (Rutkowski) Wysocki in Toledo. He was 92. Jerry graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1947 and attended the University of Toledo. During this time he met the love of his life, Barbara M. (Sinnig) on a tennis court in west Toledo. In 1949, he enlisted in the Army and served our country for 4 years.
He married Barbara in 1951 and began to grow their family of six children. He became a Toledo Police officer where he served for over 30 years, retiring in 1984 as a Captain on the force.
Jerry was the most chivalrous man and loved to serve those around him. He was kind-hearted, witty and a man of integrity. He was remarkably competitive and an excellent golfer. Golf leagues and card clubs made lifelong friends and great joy for Jerry. He loved watching the Detroit Tigers and took pleasure in all things sports including coaching CYO softball. Jerry and his late wife Barb were huge fans of their children and grandchildren in their athletic endeavors. They traveled in retirement, enjoying golf getaways together and vacations with friends and family. Jerry & Barb persisted with early morning gatherings for breakfast and coffee with cherished friends throughout all of their retirement years.
Jerry loved music and would often drum, sing and whistle along with his favorite songs bringing cheer to all. His friendly nature and contagious laughter drew people together and made them feel loved. He was an avid reader and birdwatcher. His love of nature led him to volunteer at the Metroparks of Toledo. Hunting, fishing and backyard gardening also played a part in his enjoyment of the outdoors.
Family was important to Jerry! Some of the best memories for his children were the annual family lake vacations and many memorable family gatherings. The children greatly appreciated his perseverance in caring for their mother, his beloved wife. Jerry was a person of faith, a longtime parishioner of Christ the King Church. He lived life to serve others. His legacy of caring and serving will go on through the generations to come.
