Gerald J. Wehner, 93, longtime resident Oak Harbor, OH died on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, OH. He was born in Rocky Ridge, OH on May 17, 1929 to Charles and Bernetta (Velliquette) Wehner. Gerald graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1948. Upon graduation he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War receiving an honorable discharge as Sgt. After returning from service, he married Joyce E. King on September 4, 1954 and she preceded him in death on May 6, 2009.
Plastering was Gerald’s livelihood and initially was doing business as Wehner Brother’s Plastering with brothers, Robert and Roger. In addition to self-employment, he also worked as member of local 886, Plasterers’ and Cement Mason’s Union in Toledo. After Union employment Gerald returned to self-employment doing smaller jobs such as repairs. In the community Gerald served on various church councils, was vice president of Oakwood Concerned Citizens, and he was a life member of V.F.W. Post 8732. Gerald and Joyce retreated to Lakeside over the summers for 27yrs. where they enjoyed friends, fishing, programs and Lakeside activities.
Gerald was the second youngest of nine siblings. In addition to his wife, preceding him in death were his parents, and all siblings; sisters, Ida and Berneda; brothers, Raymond, Charles, Robert, Ronald, Donald, and Roger. Surviving family are his son, Timothy Wehner, daughter, Sandra Wehner (Posch) and granddaughter, Marie Louise Posch.
Visitation for Gerald will be Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 2-8 p.m., with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m., at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, 165 E. Water St., Oak Harbor, OH. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2022 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 165 N. Toussaint St., Oak Harbor, OH. Burial will follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor, OH. Memorial contributions in memory of Gerald may be given to St. Paul UCC of Oak Harbor Memorial fund.
