Gerald Lee Long

GERALD (Chuck) LEE LONG passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026. Born on December 23, 1933 to the late David and Catherine Long. Gerald attended Libbey High School before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force for four years. He began a long career as a welder with Odland Iron, where he dedicated many years of hard work before his retirement. Even after working eight long hours as a welder, he ran his own lawn service and serviced many clients daily for over 20+ years.

On October 24, 1969, Gerald married Margaret Lois Long. Together they shared more than 58 years of marriage filled with family events and many vacations until Margaret's passing on February 21, 2023.

Gerald was an accomplished bowler and had a passion for deer hunting and fishing. More than any achievement, however, Gerald (Chuck) will be remembered for his enormous heart and willingness to help anyone in need. He was always a phone call away, ready to help.

Gerald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret (Lois) Long, his sons, Gerald Antwan Long, Lee Charles Shaw, his parents, David and Katherine Long, and his brothers, Baxter (Jack) Long and David Long.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Angela Rouse-Steward and Cheryl Hamilton, son, Theron Murray, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Greg Owens who befriended both our parents, but especially for showing up as a friend/son to our father, taking him fishing, on road trips, to breakfast and watching football and basketball games with him.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the compassionate and wonderful care they provided to our father during his final days.

Gerald lived a life defined by kindness, generosity and devotion. His memory will be forever cherished by all who knew him and loved him.

A visitation will be held Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave., Toledo, OH. A prayer service will immediately follow the visitation at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Gerald will be cremated following the services.
