Gerald “Gerry” Richard Koster, 68, went home to be with the Lord peacefully in his home surrounded by
his loved ones on September 4, 2022. He was born in Clare, Michigan on September 21, 1953, to his
parents, Gerald and Luella (Groves) Koster.
Gerry attended Lake High School and graduated in 1971. After graduation, he went on to marry the
love of his life Cathy where they shared 51 wonderful years together and raised their 3 children.. He
worked at Jeep for 20 years before joining the Northwood Police Department where he served for 4
years. From there he joined the Sylvania Township P.D. and served for 25 years before he retired, and
was the Treasurer of the F.O.P., Motorcycle officer and a D.A.R.E. officer. He was also a member of the
Sylvania Senior Center.
He was very proud of the fact that he worked a full-time job while also a full-time student obtaining his
Law Enforcement degree. Despite his busy schedule, he never missed a game and was always there
cheering on and supporting his kids. He loved spending time outdoors, fishing and hunting when he
could, and enjoyed telling tall tales to all of his grandkids. He had a passion for his Harley Davidson
motorcycle, his attempt at wine making and his woodworking, but his absolute favorite pastime was his
grandkids.
Gerald has always been known as a kindred man and would give the shirt off his back for others. He was
loved beyond measure, unique, was very dependable and would never leave you behind. He was also a
loyal, genuine, and trustworthy friend. If you ask those closest to him, supervising was a talent of his as
well when the kids and the grandkids were around. Above all, the love, kindness, and compassion he
carried will be remembered by all and his spirit will always remain.
Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Cathy; children, Jeremy (Tiffani) Koster, Matt (Kerry)
Koster, Missy (Jon) Ward; grandchildren, Ben, Aaron, Nathan, Derek, Matty, Jonathan, Maggie, Devyn,
Hattie; Tiffani’s 3 girls Randee, Trinity, and Faith: Best Friends Ron and Cher Horner and many other
nieces, nephews, cousins, colleagues, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
