Gerald D. Carter, age 87, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 1, 1938, in Toledo, Gerald was the son of Herbert and Alice (Gill) Carter. He proudly served in the United States Army, a reflection of his deep commitment to his country.
On October 12, 1968, Gerald married Joyce Jacoby, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 57 years. Their marriage was filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Gerald worked for many years as a custodian with Toledo Public Schools, where he took great pride in his work and built lasting friendships throughout the school community.
He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—watching John Deere tractors plow the fields, observing birds at his feeders, tending to his garden and flowers, camping, and woodworking. He also enjoyed playing bingo, visiting the casino, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless happiness.
A man of deep faith, Gerald was a devoted member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Toledo. He actively participated in Bible study and sang with joy in the church choir, sharing his love of music and spirituality with others.
Gerald is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce; his children, Tammy (Tom) Pollard, Jennifer Carter, and John (Kendra) Carter; his grandchildren Mckenna, Cameron, Tommy, Tanner, Rylee, Trent, Jaden, Hayden, Clayton, Raylynn, Kyla, and Hadley; Sean and McKayla and great-grandchildren Zoey and Wrenley. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Thomas Carter.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4560 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. Burial will follow at Ft. Meigs Union Cemetery.
