With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Georgios “George” C. Bekos, 74, on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio with his family by his side.
Born in Davies, Greece in 1950 to the late Christos and Marigo Bekos, George immigrated to Toledo, Ohio at the age of 16 where he ran businesses with his brothers. George returned to Greece in 1973 and married Dina, his wife of 51 years. Together they started and built their business, Mike’s Place, in 1985 where he was a pillar of the community and lovingly known as ‘George the Greek’ for 33 years.
George was a devoted father to his three daughters Sofia (George) Souris, Vickie (Elias) Pappas and Georgia (Stavros) Agganis. His love for his wife and children was only matched by his love for his ten grandchildren, George, Anthi, Evyenia, Kaliopi, Constantina, Dina, Vagelli, Tommy, George and Elias, who affectionately called him ‘Pappou Buddy’. He was also a loving brother to the late Georgia (late Demetrios) Gouzoulis, the late Panagiotis (late Stavroula) Bekos, the late Ilias (Ourania) Bekos, Nicholas (Mary) Bekos, Theodoros (Dimitra) Bekos, Vasiliki (George) Kyriakopoulos; and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.
George was a devoted member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Toledo, Ohio where he volunteered countless hours and shared his love of cooking. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family and friends and celebrating life’s special moments. The first one on the dance floor and always the life of the party, he was loved and cherished by all who knew him.
Visitation is from 10:00am-11:00am on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 740 N. Superior Street, Toledo, Ohio with funeral services immediately following. Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
Any donations can be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral of Toledo, Ohio, in George’s memory. The Bekos family would like to thank the incredible staff at Kobacker House for the immense love, care, and compassion they showed George and his family.
