George Woods

Nov 30, 1934 — Oct 16, 2026

Dr. George Richard Woods, beloved husband, father, grandfather and physician, late of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was 91 years of age. Dr. Woods is survived by his wife Betty Woods, his daughter Lindsay Woods Newcomer (John), son Ian Woods (Margaret Mudge), and grandson David Newcomer.

George was born on November 30, 1934 to Dr. Gerald and Averil (Silverthorn) Woods in Toledo, Ohio. He was the second of four children. After graduating from MIT in 1956, George began his professional career as an engineer for the Pratt & Whitney Corporation in E. Hartford, Connecticut. George eventually found his calling in medicine, and obtained his medical degree from the University of Michigan. In 1958 he married Norma Elizabeth (Betty) Maclean of Nova Scotia, Canada. George and Betty would go on to settle in Rossford, Ohio and were happily married for 68 years.

George began practicing medicine in Rossford in 1964 as a General Practitioner, but he later focused his scope to Obstetrics/Gynecology. George felt privileged to provide care for multiple generations in the Northwest Ohio area. He delivered thousands of babies into the community up until his retirement in the early 2000s. Although George was often seen as a man of few words, his intelligent wit, generous nature and surprisingly dry sense of humor endeared him to his family, friends, patients and colleagues.

George maintained several hobbies over the years to balance out the stress of being a doctor. He was a highly skilled cabinet maker, avid gardener, model railroader, Radio Controlled aircraft builder/flyer, amateur astronomer, computer programmer and gourmet chef. Above everything else, George was a dedicated family man and advocate for his local community. He will be missed by the thousands of people whose lives he positively impacted.

Visitation for Dr. George Woods will be held at the Sujkowski/Walker funeral home (830 Lime City Rd.) on Friday November 6, 2026 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday November 7, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Rossford United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any donations be made to Hospice of Northwestern Ohio at www.hospicenwo.org/forms/donate-online-today.
