George “Joe” W. Sloan, 75, of Oak Harbor, OH, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, in Perrysburg, OH. He was born on November 28, 1948, in Toledo, OH, to Wesley and Mary (Parker) Sloan. Joe graduated from Macomber High School in 1966. On June 28, 1969, in Toledo, OH, he married his high school sweetheart (now widow), Billie Jean Jaquillard. Joe worked as an over-the-road trucker for 50 years. Joe was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and a member of several bowling leagues. Joe’s happy place was on the tractor, mowing his yard. Between his job and vacations, Joe has visited 48 of the 50 states. He enjoyed family vacations, taking cruises, traveling to Las Vegas, and hitting the casinos. In addition to traveling, Joe enjoyed watching sporting events, especially the San Francisco 49ers and Joe Montana. After retiring from trucking, he has enjoyed taking surveys, which led to many gift cards to dine out on.
Joe’s family was his pride and joy. He especially loved getting to spend time with his grandkids and going to all their activities. Joe became interested in watching Formula One Racing because his grandkids liked it and he wanted to enjoy it with them. He was known to his grandkids as "Papa," and he also loved his nieces and nephews; he happened to be many’s favorite Uncle Joe.
Joe enjoyed eating out with his wife, Billie, and having his favorite meal, a good hamburger. Joe was very talkative and always very easy to talk to. His family is going to miss hearing him bicker back and forth with his wife out of love for her.
In addition to his loving wife of 54 years, Billie Jean, he is survived by his children, Steven (Lisa) Sloan, Gregory Sloan, Victoria Sloan, and Jeff (Brittany Fritz) Sloan; grandkids, Luc Sloan, Laurel Sloan, Brigid Sloan, Declan Sloan, Dominic Fritz, and Nayellie Fritz; and his siblings, Sue Williams, Carol Sloan, and Becky Zielinski. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, Killian Sloan, and siblings, Wesley Sloan and Bonnie Sloan.
Cremation will take place under the direct care of the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor. A Celebration of Life for Joe will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions in memory of Joe can be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.
