George H Schmidt

George H. Schmidt, of Maumee, passed away on Friday January 15, 2013 at Swan Creek Care Center. He was born in Valley City, North Dakota on April 22, 1924 to Herman and Anna Stoye Schmidt. George married the former Donna Jean Brown. He was a veteran of the United State Marines, where he achieved the rank of 2nd Lt. George was also a member of Maumee United Methodist Church, where he was a trustee, taught adult Sunday School and was a past president of the Mens Club He attended Valley City High School, where he is in the Sports Hall of fame, and later graduated with a masters degree from Bowling Green State University where he was also on the football team. For 30 years George was the Guidance Director for the Maumee School District. While there he became the first Guidance Counselor at Maumee High School. George coached basketball, football, and was also the first golf coach. He was the first teacher to be elected to the Maumee City Council, where he served 4 terms. George also served on the board of directors at St. Lukes Hospital and was also part of the Quality of Life Committee. He is survived by his wife, Donna, sons, George H. Wendy II and Jeffrey E. Anna , grandchildren, Noah, Nicole, Orion, Morgan, and sister, Eleanor Dokken. Visitation will be on Tuesday February 19, 2013 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Maumee. Memorial contributions may be given to the donors choice.
