George L. Saba

George Lester Saba, 62, peacefully entered the kingdom of heaven Tuesday, March 9, 2021. He was born April 20, 1958 in Toledo, Ohio. George graduated from Whitmer High School in 1976 and attended the University of Toledo while working at the former Centre Supermarkets. He later owned and operated Mello Cream Bakery and White Hut Restaurant located on Lagrange Street along with his family. George later worked as a Bakery Manager at The Andersons Store on Monroe and Talmadge before working for Lucas County as a Maintenance Supervisor until retirement in 2015. The loves of his life were his family and his faith. He was a lifelong member of Saint George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral where he formerly served on the Parish Council and as a Church School teacher. His faith was deep, strong, and unwavering. George enjoyed all sports and rooted for his favorite teams, the New York Yankees, Indianapolis Colts and Ohio State Buckeyes. He especially enjoyed family vacations to Montreal, Quebec, Canada. George was preceded in death by his loving parents, Rev. Elias and Kh. Rene Saba. He is survived by his son, George II; daughter, Samantha; brother, Michael (Laurie); goddaughter and niece Kelsey Saba; niece Courtney Saba; and many other nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Friday from 3-8 p.m. at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral, 3754 Woodley Rd., Toledo, with Trisagion Prayers at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 13, 2021 in the church with additional visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service can be viewed via live stream by visiting the Walker Family Funeral Homes Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/WalkerFamilyFuneralHomes). Burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. Facial coverings and social distancing are required at all events. Contributions in his name, in lieu of flowers, are suggested to St. George Cathedral.
