George Prephan, 95, of Toledo, died July 27, 2022. He was born November 29, 1926, in Toledo, to the late Joseph and Shafika (Richo) Prephan. He served as a Merchant Marine (1943-1946), and in the United States Coast Guard (1948-50). A man with extremely high energy and an incredible work ethic, George worked for over 58 years at General Mills which was bought by Smuckers, retiring as Chief Engineer in the boiler room in 2012 at the age of 85. He regularly worked 12-hour days, 7-days a week, always making time to run in the evening, and go to the gym three times a week after work. George had an active mind, requiring very little sleep, and enjoyed reading medical journals and handicapping horse races. He also liked to fix anything that was broken, and spending time having coffee with “the guys”. George will be most remembered for his overwhelming generosity. It was not unusual for him to buy groceries for those in need or allow someone to live in one of his properties rent-free for extended periods of time to help them get back on their feet. George said, “If you do not find pleasure from giving to others, you do not know what real pleasure is.” He was a man of service and will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Daad Michelle Prephan; children, George (Kathy) and Gerald (Patricia) and Rebecca Prephan; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Timothy, Fallon, and Robert; and great granddaughter, Audrey. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Maria, and siblings, Judd “Joe” and Michael “Big Mike” Prephan.
