George W. Kinzie, Jr.

GEORGE “JAY” W. KINZIE, JR. George “Jay” W. Kinzie, Jr., passed away, surrounded by family, Sunday, January 31st at St. Luke’s Hospital after a short bout of pneumonia and a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis. He was 95. He was known to his family as Jay. He was born in West Alexandria, OH on June 14, 1920 to Reverend George W and Maude Q (Grossnickle) Kinzie. George proudly served 4 years in the Army in the US and the Pacific during World War II, earning a Bronze Service Star and achieved the rank of TEC4. He was an accountant for Armor Meat Company for 29 years in both Pittsburgh and Boston. He had his own accounting business for 10 years in Toledo. He was a long time member of the National Association of Accountants (now known as The Institute of Management Accountants). George helped establish Maumee Valley Grace Brethren Church. He belonged to The Gideon’s International locally for 28 years and enjoyed handing out bibles on the University of Toledo campus. On September 14, 1946 he married Edna Mae Ryan in Pittsburgh, PA. She passed away on January 14, 1982, after 35 years of marriage. He married Shirley Jean Dunlap on June 22, 1985. They met at Jim Gagnon’s Dinner Dance Group. They also enjoyed bowling together. Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife Edna Mae; his siblings Russell Kinzie, Paul Kinzie, Opal Wood, Merrie List, and Lois Kirscht; and an infant son, Gary Kinzie. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Shirley; children: Jim (Sherry) Kinzie, Jan (Len) Anderson, John (Karen) Kinzie; stepchildren: Carol Jean (Bob) Crist, Karen (Larry) Shenberger, Sheryle (Bernie) Wanner, Darlene Dunlap, Arthur (Cindy) Dunlap, Allen (Jen) Dunlap; 26 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 10-12:30 P.M. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) where funeral services will held at 12:30 P.M. with Pastor Steve Miller, officiating. Burial will follow in Toledo Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to The Gideon’s International, 50 Century Blvd., Nashville, TN, 37214.
