George F. Hartman

February 16, 1932 — January 9, 2022

George Hartman, Jr, 89, beloved husband, devoted father, loving grandfather and faithful friend passed away peacefully at home in Perrysburg on Sunday, January 9, 2022. He was born at home in East Toledo on February 16, 1932 to Evelyn and George Hartman. He graduated from Waite High School in 1950 and continued many friendships from that time with his class mates and bandmates. As a drummer, some of his happiest memories were with the Waite Band and the gigs with the Paul Mabie Big Band. George graduated from the Toledo University with an Engineering Degree. He entered the Army through ROTC. George was proud of his service as First Lieutenant, Army Reserve and as an instructor at the Fort Leonard Wood NCO Academy.

George had a distinct talent and appreciation as an artist and musician. His life journey led him to the Toledo Museum of Art for 25+ years with some breaks to practice his degree in engineering at American Warming, etc. He ended his career path at the Toledo Museum of Art as Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds.

As a Little League and Girls Softball Coach in Maumee, he kept many friendships with his kids, other coaches & parents. He contributed many memorable moments to those special years.  He was grateful for social media to stay connected and share in their life’s journey as well.

He was very interested and enjoyed exploring his ancestry and genealogy. He was so excited to connect with new found cousins in the last few years.

George was an avid animal lover and they loved him right back. Dogs held a special place in his heart although he opened up and came to appreciate our cats as well. He loved fishing especially bass fishing, enjoying our trips to central Florida, Michigan, Missouri and daughter Jen’s pond.

George will be missed for his quick wit, world view and love of his family & many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Hartman; daughter, Jen (Gary) Plumadore; sons, Doug (Janell) Hartman and  David Hartman in Parker, CO; Blended family, daughter,  Melissa (Jim) Johns son,  Rob (Erin) Robinson; and  nieces and nephews. He was so proud and loved his 12 grandkids and 5 great grandkids. Preceding him in death and missed by all are Judy Hartman, beloved mother of his children; parents, George & Evelyn Hartman; and son, John.

The family wishes to thank all the support he received from doctors, nurses, staff and palliative care this past year. We appreciate them recognizing what a great guy he was.

George requested cremation and a celebration of life. Please join his family and friends at the Holiday Inn & Suites, 27355 Carronade Dr, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551 on Saturday, February, 19, 2022 from 1-4 at what originally was planned to be his 90th Birthday Party.
