George A. Haddad, a 59 year resident of Maumee, Ohio died at St. Lukes Hospital on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. He was 35, 210 days old - 96 years, and one of the oldest veterans in the area. At 11 years old he was featured in the Peach section of the Toledo Blade for his artistry, especially the drawing he made of the University of Toledo Bell Tower on Bancroft Street. He was the youngest of 7 brothers and sisters who grew up in North Toledo, and the son of Assad and Sadie Haddad. Upon graduation he worked in a number of family businesses until he enlisted in the service during WWII. He served in many locations overseas and was partially blinded while on active duty. After his discharge he returned to Toledo. Following his desire and talents as an artist, he went to California to audition for a position as an animator for Disney Productions. He discovered he was accepted for the position only after his return to Toledo. George married Mary Helen Damoose from Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1947, and after a brief period in Grand Rapids, moved back to his hometown of Toledo where he became a commercial artist for the Telenious/Randolph Company, and worked there for 28 years, before retiring. In 1954 George and his family moved into a newly built home in Maumee, Ohio, where he lived the rest of his life. He was a member of St. Georges Orthodox Church until becoming an Episcopalian in 1965 and a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Maumee, Ohio. He was also a member of Sigma Sigma Phi Faternity, My Friends Club of Toledo, a 60 year plus member of the American Legion Post, Maumee and Disabled American Veterans. George has been a resident of Maumee for the past 59 years living at the same residence he moved into in 1954. The last several years he has been supported by the many wonderful neighbors who have assisted him, as well as, the loyal support of his son, Rick Haddad, also of Maumee. George loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are his sons, Randolph C. Christine Haddad of Palm Harbor, FL and Rick C. Michelle Haddad of Maumee; grandchildren, Thaddeus Haddad of Columbus and Andreana Tim McCullough of Maumee; great-grandson, Keaton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Haddad and his siblings, Czar, Margaret Joseph, Frieda Kinzel and Fred. Friends and family may visit on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 3 to 8 pm at Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant St., Maumee where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 am.
