George Arthur Hablitzel, D.D.S., 73, of Oak Harbor, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo. He was born to Corwin and Carolyn Moore Hablitzel on January 13, 1935 in Pique, OH. He grew up in Oak Harbor and graduated from Salem Oak Harbor High School. He attended The Ohio State University and graduated with his dental degree in 1959. George served on the faculty at The Ohio State University during the 1970s. He then opened his dental practice in Oak Harbor and continued until the present. In 1978 he married the former Christine Clowe Sutter and she survives. George was an avid Buckeye fan and enjoyed his family, fishing, and playing poker. He was active in community affairs and was a member of the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, Oak Harbor Athletic Boosters, Masonic Lodge #495 FAM, Ottawa County Shrine Club, Zenobia Temple, Port Clinton Yacht Club, Port Clinton Elks Lodge #1718, Marsh Club, Oakwood Manor board, Sunnybrook Trout Club and was a life member of the NRA. He was also a member of the Ottawa County OSU Alumni, the American, Ohio, and Toledo Dental Societies, the Carl O. Boucher Prosthodontic Conference, and the Psi Omega and Delta Chi Fraternities. In addition to his loving wife Christine, survivors include children: Jane Cary Bogan of Lorena, TX, Karin Steve Merrell of Cincinnati, OH, Steven E. Lynette Hablitzel of Woodville, OH, Mary Rob Wilson of Kearneysville, WV, Matthew Sutter of Columbus, OH and Andrew Kathleen Sutter of Washington, DC, 14 grandchildren, sisters, Nancy David Ravas of Traverse City, MI and Molly Cheadle of Arlington, TX, uncle, Derrill Hablitzel, aunt, Marguerite Hersberger, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Brian Cheadle. Memorial services will be conducted by Pastor Larry Snyder at 12:00 noon, Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church, 360 E. Ottawa St., Oak Harbor, beginning with Masonic Services by the Oak Harbor Masonic Lodge #495 FAM. The family will be present one hour prior to the services to receive family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the Shriners Burn Hospital and the Oak Harbor United Methodist Church.
