George Frederick Fred Haase, 83, of Toledo, OH died April 8, 2014, at Heartland in Waterville due to an extended battle with pulmonary illness. Fred was born on August 2, 1930, in Toledo, OH to George and Adelaide Kopitke Haase. Fred graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1948 and Purdue University in 1952 with a degree in Civil Engineering. While at Purdue, Fred was a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity Beta Mu chapter. He also was a Midshipman in the U.S. Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps on the Purdue campus. After graduation and receiving his commission as an Ensign, Fred served a tour of active duty for the US Navy in the Atlantic on board the USS Benner DDR 807. Following his discharge from active duty, Fred joined his fathers business, the George J. Haase Company. Fred ran the company, a commercial dealership selling building specialties and school equipment to the construction and institutional markets, until his retirement in 2009. In 2008 Fred received recognition for 50 years of service in the Rotary Club of Toledo. He was also a lifelong member of American Legion Toledo Post 335. His other contributions to the community include serving on the board of directors and as a board chairman for the Cherry Street Mission and serving on the Council of Elders at the Westgate Chapel. Fred particularly enjoyed being involved with the Westgate Chapel community, discussing politics, and following sports especially the Purdue Boilermakers and Detroit Tigers. Fred was a friendly, outgoing, and generous man, and a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his brother, David; children, Randy Julie, Sharon Eric Resultan, and Dwight Rabeah; grandchildren, Tara, Corinne, and Zachary Haase, Sam and Christine Resultan, and Yahya Haase. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Sue. Friends will be received from 3 to 8 pm on Friday, April 11, 2014 in the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd., Toledo 419-841-2422. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday at the Westgate Chapel, 2500 Wilford Dr., Toledo 419-841-8077 with Pastor Larry Carey officiating. Military honors accorded by the U.S. Navy and burial will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank all those at the University of Toledo Medical Center, the Jobst Vascular Center at the Toledo Hospital, and Westgate Chapel.
