George Robert Fender, of Maumee, died Friday, July 23, 2010. Born December 22, 1919 in Evanston, Ill., he was the son of George and Ruth Hildebrandt Fender of Logansport, Ind. and later of Park Ridge, Ill. He was a Boy Scout and member of the Methodist Church of Park Ridge. Bob attended Knox College, where he was on the football team and member of Phi Delta Theta. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War II where his tour of duty took him to the Pacific islands. His employment included Sperry & Hutchinson and the city of DeKalb, Ill. Bob enjoyed collecting antiques and stamps, playing cards and attending Compass Club meetings. He loved eating circus peanuts, M&Ms and butter on everything! Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle. Surviving are children George S. Fender of Orlando, Fla., Ruth Heal of DeKalb, Ill., Susan Steve Utterback and Jeff Fender, both of Maumee, grandchildren George Steven Fender, Melissa Utterback and Allison Utterback, to whom he was affectionately known as G.P. Also surviving are nephew Mark Elaine May of Oxford, MS and cousin Alan Edie Hildebrandt of Logansport, Ind. A private burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Maumee.
