George Danko, 83, died peacefully Tuesday the way he had hoped, surrounded by family in his Perrysburg home. He was born August 10, 1926 in Toledo to Ignacz and Margaret Fejes Danko, proud of his Hungarian Heritage. George was an US Naval veteran serving in WWII during the invasion of Okinawa. He was a Maintenance Foreman for Toledo Edison for 43 years, retiring in 1987. His career at Toledo Edison was a source of great stories and even greater friends. George was an active member of the Edison retirees and was instrumental in planning the big commemorative picnic celebrating Bay Shores 50th anniversary. He was also active with Local 245 Retirees and the Masonic Blue Lodge 708 Triad. He will be remembered for so many things, like classic cars, beautifully crafted clocks, boxes and dulcimers, silver bud vases and silverware chains which he gave out to anyone lucky enough to have made him smile. George was a good man who lived a good life. George married his sweetheart, Carole Wessendorf Danko in 1950. Together they raised four children, Darlene William Smietanski, Kathleen Edwin Kane, Barbara Gary Rabbitt and George Amy Danko; grandchildren, Adam, Andrew and Thomas Smietanski, Daniel, Joseph, Nathan Ashley and Michael Kane, Natalie, Mason and Grace Rabbitt, Leah and Samuel Danko; great granddaughter, Arienette Kane. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Stevens. Family and friends may visit Friday from 2-8 pm in the Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, OH where funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:30 pm.
