GEORGE FREDRICK (JEFF) ALTER, JR. (Age 61) Born July 15, 1953 Died Feb. 19, 2015 Jeff (as he was known to all) was born to George Fredrick Alter and Mary Margaret (Ta) Alter, in Toledo on July 15, 1953 and passed away in his home Feb. 19, 2015. He graduated from Bowsher High School in 1971 then attended Ohio University with two of his siblings, making it a family affair. He moved to Boulder, Colorado for a time, returning to the Toledo’s South End for the remainder of his life. He married Barbara Lamale and they enjoyed many years together with their beloved dogs Corky and Ringo. Jeff was passionate about fishing and he loved the Maumee River, Lake Erie, off-shore fishing in St. Petersburg, Florida near where his parents retired, and wherever a boat would take him. He also enjoyed hunting from the time he was an early adolescent. Jeff was a terrific cook specializing in fish fries and outdoor grilling, where he was always the life of the party. He was a live music fan, following the Grateful Dead to many shows. Jeff was a life long fan of the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Ohio State football and basketball. He ran his own house painting and remodeling business, and people were always amazed at his energy level and focus on getting the job done. Jeff and Barb moved into his family home and enjoyed making it their own. He continued to live there until his death, so the home has been in the family since 1952. Jeff will be missed by all his family and friends who dearly loved him. He is survived by his siblings Charlie (Terry Teufel), Connie (Bill) Ramsey, Katharine (Foster Lott), and Bill (Debbie). Also his nephew, Devon, his friend Mary Pat Priest and his many cousins in Toledo and around the U.S. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barb, and his parents. There will be a memorial service for Jeff later this spring. Arrangements through the Walker Funeral Home, 419.841.2422. www.walkerfuneralhomes.com
