TOLEDO, OHIO - Georg Lantag Dunaeff, affectionately known to family and friends as "Yura," passed away peacefully of natural causes on May 22, 2026, at the age of 80. A man of remarkable resilience, sharp intellect, and a vibrant passion for life, Georg's journey spanned continents and left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.
Georg was born into history on January 15, 1946, in a refugee camp in Wörgl, Austria, to Eugene Dunaeff and Wanda Lantag at the close of World War II. Seeking a peaceful future, his family emigrated to Chile when he was just three years old. Raised in Chile, Georg developed a lifelong love for speed, adventure, and mechanics. An incredibly gifted rider, he achieved early acclaim by becoming the Motocross Champion of Chile at the young age of 16.
In 1971, seeking to escape the turbulent rise of Pinochet's regime, Georg and his first wife, Patricia, made the decision to leave Chile. They ultimately settled in Toledo, Ohio, which became his home for the rest of his life. Though deeply rooted in the Toledo community, he remained proud of his roots, splitting his later years between Ohio and Santiago, Chile.
Georg possessed an exceptionally sharp, mechanical mind. He channeled his practical talents into a successful career, starting as the owner and operator of his own gas station and auto repair shop. He later pivoted to education, sharing his decades of expertise by teaching auto mechanics and small engine repair to countless students until his retirement.
A true renaissance man, Georg had a boundless curiosity and a diverse array of hobbies. During his 30's and 40's, he was an avid auto racer, participating in rally races, and never lost his passion for motocross and dirt bikes. He stayed active playing soccer in a local men's league, loved the tranquility of fishing and camping, and was a master at the grill. Never content to stop learning, he also took flying and photography lessons. In his retirement, he cherished spending precious downtime with his wife, Emilia and his family during visits.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Wanda, and his favorite dog, Sasha.
Georg is survived by his beloved wife, Emilia Valenzuela Dunaeff ; his sister, Tatiana Stevens; his ex-wife, Patricia Palominos-Dunaeff; his devoted daughters, Natalia (Ted) Woodlock and Tamara (Zed Clark) Dunaeff; and his two cherished grandchildren, Edge and Ace.
His strength, wisdom, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, and the many students he inspired throughout his life.
