Gene K. Marciniak

Gene K. Marciniak, age 85, of Toledo, Ohio, died on Sunday, May 8, 2016. He was born on July 30, 1930 in Toledo, Ohio to Casper and Lottie (Zawiervcha) Marciniak. Gene graduated from Macomber High School in 1947 where he played varsity baseball. He was then drafted into the US Army in 1951. Stationed at Fort Belvior, Virginia for basic training, he was soon sent to Korea in 1952. Gene was discharged from the Army in 1953 and received the Korean Service Medal with the Bronze Star, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He married Celine J. Kelsey on July 2, 1954 and have celebrated 61 years of marriage. Gene was employed as a Toledo Police Officer for 25 years and retired in 1984. He was a member of the Toledo Police Officers Retiree Association, the Logsdon Wall Post #639, Catholic War Veterans, and the American Legion Psybalski Post 642. Gene enjoyed his seasonal home in the Villages, Florida, where in his later years he still enjoyed playing softball and golf. He is survived by his loving wife, Celine; two sons of whom he was very proud of, Douglas (Annette) and Michael (Pamela); grandchildren, Kelsey, Jessica, Jenna, and Colin; and sister, Helen Andrzejewski. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Alexa, and sister, Hyacinth Sobczak. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Christopher Bates and the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially his hospice nurse, Trixie, for their compassionate care and support. Visitation will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 2255 Central Grove, Toledo, Ohio 43614 on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 from 9:30 AM until the time of the Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Foundation at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center for the Alexa Marie Marciniak NICU Fund or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
