Gene R. Fitzgerald

Gene R. Fitzgerald, 75, of Graytown, died Thursday, July 26, 2007, in Bay Park Community Hospital, Oregon. Gene was born February 6, 1932, in Tennessee to William J. and Pearl Phillips Fitzgerald. On October 24, 1954, in Mississippi he married Margie Chappel and she preceded him in death April 7, 2007. Gene worked as a crane operator and glass cutter for Libbey-Owens-Ford Company. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Oak Harbor, and many of his hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, farming, and camping.Survivors include his daughter, Jeanette C. Matthews Matthews of Sandusky, grandchildren, Jeannie Hatt, Jason Pollard, and Chad Hatt all of Port Clinton, and Tim Pollard of Bayview; great grandchildren, Brandon, Caleb, Alexis, Daina, and Marissa Pollard and Everett, Courtny, Trista, and McKala Hat; brother, Fletcher Fitzgerald; sisters-in-law, Charlotte Martin Hickerson, Sarah Frank Golatka, and Betty Jo Reeves, and brother-in-law, Tommy Shirley Chappel. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Michael Terry Fitzgerald, brothers, William and Albert Fitzgerald, and sisters, Donna and Josie Dunn.Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home, Oak Harbor. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 1, 2007, in the funeral home with interment to follow in Limestone Cemetery, Graytown. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in care of the funeral home.
