Gaylord W. Oestreich, 90, of Martin, Ohio died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, October 9, 2017 in the Genoa Retirement Village. Gaylord was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 27, 1927 to Lester J. and Lillian A. (Markley) Oestreich. He married Carol G. Dipman in St. Johns United Church of Christ, Genoa, on October 15, 1954. She preceded him in death on August 19, 1986. Gaylord was a Tool maker by trade and worked for Ares Inc. in Port Clinton, Ohio until his retirement in 1992. He had also worked for Owens-Illinois of Perrysburg and for the former Plabell Rubber Products Co. of Toledo. Gaylord was a proud Veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces, Pacific Fleet onboard the USS Samar, as a Motor Machinists Mate. He was a very active member of St. Johns United Church of Christ serving as president of the Congregation on Consistory, Sunday School Superintendent, past president of the Elderlife Board and vice president of the original Building Committee. Gaylord was a member of American Legion Post 324 of Genoa, S.C.R.A.P., the Professional Cars Assoc., Ohio Historical Society, Ottawa County Conservation League and the Ohio Historical Bridges Assoc. One of his passions was photography including photographing old barns across the entire state of Ohio. During the Ohio Sesquicentennial year he traveled to all of Ohios counties to photograph the barns which had been specially painted for that celebration. Gaylord is survived by the family he loved, daughter, Shelley G. (Frank) Copa, sons, Kent W. (Melanie Heuston) Oestreich, Scott A. (Lisa) Oestreich, grandchildren, Kyle, Christine (Mike), Elaine, Claire, William, Adrienne, Charles, A.J., Walter, and half-sister, Karen Murray. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carol, sister Wilma Bender and step-brother, Clyde Steele.
