Gary W. Cooper, age 67, passed away Monday May 12, 2014 at Franciscan Care Center. The son of Richard and Ardith, he was born August 30, 1946 in Toledo. He was a graduate of Macomber High School where he lettered in tennis all 4 years and made the All City Tennis Team. During his senior year, he signed up for active reserve with the Navy. Following graduation he began his career with Ohio Bell and was called to active duty during Vietnam. Gary served on the USS America and after being honorably discharged, became inactive reserve with the Navy and resumed his career with Ohio Bell retiring after more than 30 years. Following retirement he was a consultant for Ameritech in Michigan and later worked as a guard for the Toledo Museum of Art. Gary was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and enjoyed woodworking, painting and working in the yard. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings. At one time he was a basketball referee. He also enjoyed bowling and playing golf, achieving the coveted hole-in-one. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Scott Cooper, Mark Erin Wenrick, Lisa Zac Bartko; grandchildren Theresa Cooper, Scott Danielle Cooper, Claire Wenrick, Ethan Wenrick; great grandchildren Lucy McLaughlin, Jasper Cooper; brothers Terry Harriet and Keith Mary Cooper; aunt and uncle, Marvel Joe Duerringer; and the mother of his grandchildren Theresa and Scott, Jackie Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may visit the family on Thursday From 2-8 PM at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd where a service will be held Thursday evening at 6:00 PM. Interment will be private at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials in Garys memory may be made to the American Heart Association 3540 Secor Rd.
