Gary R. Pollauf

July 1, 1952 — June 2, 2024

Gary Richard Pollauf, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away suddenly at his residence in Genoa, Ohio on June 2, 2024, at 71 years old. Born on July 1, 1952, in Toledo, Ohio, Gary was the cherished son of Arthur and Alois (Eischen) Pollauf. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1970. Gary embarked on a long and fulfilling career with General Motors, where he worked as a machine operator for an impressive 45 years before retiring in 2015.

Gary's life was forever enriched when he crossed paths with Nancy LaLonde at a pool hall in Toledo. Their bond blossomed into a beautiful union, and on March 19, 1977, they exchanged vows at Gesu Catholic Church in Toledo. Together, they became stalwart members of the church community, later transitioning their attendance to St. Jerome Catholic Church in Walbridge, Ohio, where Gary's unwavering faith was reflected in his commitment to never missing a mass.

A dedicated member of UAW Local 14, Gary was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering loyalty. He relished the simple pleasures, such as indulging in naps, canoeing with his brothers, and sailing on the open water. He had a sweet tooth for chocolate, marble cake, and peanut brittle.

Gary's adventurous spirit also led him to the skies, where he enjoyed flying alongside his brother in a small plane affectionately named "Breezy”. Closer to the ground, he found excitement at Raceway Park in Toledo, where he eagerly watched horse races unfold. A skilled craftsman, Gary found solace in woodworking, pouring his heart into creating pieces that would endure the test of time. His love for the outdoors extended to his cherished boxer companion, Jasper, and to the cherished memories of fishing trips with his children, which filled his heart with boundless joy.

Gary is survived by his wife, Nancy Pollauf, children, Amy (Kevin) Melvin, Christy (Jeremy) Pollauf, Brett (Belinda) Pollauf, Matthew (Hilary) Pollauf, grandchildren, Kyra, Kevin Jr., Landon, Henry, Elyssia, Eliana, Ethan, Evan, Madelyn, Savannah, Auggie, siblings, Jim (Vicki) Pollauf, Dave (Fran) Pollauf, Patti (Ken) Roshak, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Barbara (Dan) Dennis.
