GARY L. Klar age 74, passed away by his wife’s side Friday evening October 6, 2017 in Elkhart, IN. He was a resident of Temperance, MI for the past 48 years. He was born March 11, 1943 in Toledo, Ohio to Ordell and Elsie (Berry) Klar. Gary was a graduate of Macomber High School and The University of Toledo. He served in the Michigan Army National Guard and was deployed during the 1967 Detroit riots. Gary was employed by Art Iron and Surface Combustion as an HVAC Engineer, as well as, L. K. Comstock, Claude Brown and Associates, and Owens Illinois as a Mechanical Engineer, prior to his long term disability. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Nine months after their first blind date set up by mutual friends, he married his wife of over 50 years. Gary enjoyed racquetball, tennis, and softball in his younger years. He also enjoyed photography. Gary was a minister and elder in the Church of God - Toledo. He enjoyed spending time with his church family. Gary was deeply loved by his congregation, which he served tirelessly. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judith Mae; children, Ja’nean (Phil) Butcher, Douglas (Elisabeth) and Jeffrey (Kelly); grandchildren Kyle, Jordan, Kristen, Matthew, Emalynn, and Alexis; great-grandchild Naomi, and many nieces and nephews. Gary is preceded in death by his parents Ordell and Elsie, stepmother Priscilla and siblings Phyllis, Ordell, Shirley, Kay and Diane; and nephew, Don. Family and friends may visit Tuesday, October 17th 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Walker Funeral Home 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd).
