Gary Golden

Gary Golden, 69, of Perrysburg, Ohio, passed away on May 31, from natural causes. Gary was born on January 12, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan to Robert and Corinne Golden. Gary married Patricia Wheeler on September 3, 1999, and she preceded him in death on January 20, 2020. Gary was also preceded in death by his father, Robert Golden, and is survived by his daughter Grace (Perrysburg, Ohio), his son, Geoffrey Golden (California), his mother Corinne Golden, (California), his brother Glenn Golden, (Kansas), and his sister Gail Zimmerman, (California) Gary received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, and his law degree from the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Law. He began his legal career at Chrysler Corporation in 1976. In 1981, he joined the Law Department of Dana Incorporated where he served as the company’s primary Labor and Employment Legal Counsel for nearly 40 years, retiring in May 2020. Gary also served as a member of Dana’s Human Resources Leadership Team, advising on a range of policy and compliance matters. Gary was respected for his keen intellect and wise counsel, and he gained the affection of countless colleagues for his quick wit, and pragmatic and practical approach to problem solving. In short, he was an institution at Dana; so much so that at his virtual retirement celebration several weeks ago, tributes and well wishes streamed in from friends and colleagues located all over the world. Gary was a devoted family man. He cherished spending time with his family, including walking, gardening, and traveling together. Gary was an avid sports fan, and everyone knew about his special passion for the Michigan Wolverines. He also enjoyed reading and studying history. Gary will always be remembered as someone who was kind to everyone he met, and as a great mentor and friend to countless people over the years. He will also be remembered for his amazing storytelling, and his ability to always brighten a room, share a laugh, and bring a smile, even during challenging times.
