Garnet Mae Lowry, age 98 of Toledo passed away at home peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born October 6, 1917 in Toledo to Chris and Bernice Helmke. She attended St. Petri Lutheran Elementary and Scott High School. She married her childhood friend, Rexford Slough in 1939 who was killed in action in France during World War II. In 1946 she met and married Richard B. Lowry who died in 1981. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter Norma Jean Slough and 4 younger siblings. Garnet was a member of Augsburg Lutheran Church, Gold Star Wives and VFW Post 2898 Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving is her daughter Tracy (Jeffrey) Harrison; dear nephew and care-giver David Helmke; grandchildren Jessica, Richard, Alexander and Mary Garnet Bowles and Kegan Harrison; and great-grandson Kyler Bowles. Friends may visit the family at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey) on Monday from 6-8 PM where the VFW Ladies Auxiliary will conduct services at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 PM in the funeral home conducted by Pastor Stephen Lutz of Trinity Lutheran Church, Elmore followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
