Frieda Blossom was born in Putnam County, Ohio on June 8, 1913. She passed away on May 24, 2009, two weeks short of her 96th birthday. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Ida Brecht Schafer. She attended a one room school through the eight grade and was valedictorian of her class from Continental High School in 1930. In 1933, Frieda married George Blossom, Deputy Clerk of Federal Court of Toledo. He preceded her in death in 1980. She was employed in the accounting department of Swartzbaugh Manufacturing Co. during World War II for six years. Later she became Assistant Secretary and Treasurer of Theatre Equipment Company and Eprad Co. where she worked for 17 years. Along with her husband they owned and operated Little Flower Drive-In Theatre in Ottawa, Ohio. They lived in Ottawa for six years from 1965-1971. In 1971 they returned to Toledo and became partners in Crestwyck Apartments where she resided until her death. Frieda was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and The Compass Club of Toledo, serving as President twice. She was a past president of the Toledo Credit Womens Group. In earlier years she was active in the Monroe Street Methodist Church and their ladies group and choir. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and a sister. Surviving are sons, Dr. G. Barton Gay Blossom of Toledo, OH, and Lowell A. Sharon Blossom of Charlevoix, MI; five grandchildren, Eric Cheryl Blossom of Reno, NV, Erin Bill Baas of Nobleville, IN, Dr. Geoffrey Blossom, Laurie Allen Wirt, and Julie Scott Harvey, all of Columbus, OH and nine great-grandchildren, Andrew and Ian Baas, Jordan, Matthew and Nathan Blossom, Allison and Emily Wirt, and Katie and Drew Harvey; two sisters, Helen McMillan of Spring Hill, FL and Lenore Wayne Johnston of North Creek, OH and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Thursday, May 28, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave. west of Corey Rd.. Funeral services will be on Friday at 10:00 am at the funeral home followed by interment at Toledo Memorial Park. The family suggests that any memorial tributes be made to Epworth Methodist Church, The Toledo Compass Club, or charity of the donors choice. We also wish to thank all the nurses and doctors at Flower Hospital for their excellent care and concern for our mother, and for her special friend, Marie Diehl.
