Fredrick August Meckfessel, III, 74 of Port Clinton, OH passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Heritage Village of Clyde. He was born on October 11, 1949 in Port Clinton, OH to Fredrick August and Marion (Wallace) Meckfessel, II. Fred graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1968, where he played on the football team. He furthered his education with a degree from an engineering school in Tipp City, OH. Fred worked previously at Davis Besse in Oak Harbor, Brands Marina in Port Clinton, and for NASA Plum Brook Test Facility Station in Sandusky, OH, retiring in 2013. In 2011 he married Lisa Cutcher, and she preceded him in death on April 23, 2018.


Fred was affectionately known as “Face” to his friends. He enjoyed fishing and being out on Lake Erie. He was a huge football fan, always an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, and a frustrated Cleveland Browns Fan. Fred loved spending time at Bel Mel’s Tavern in Port Clinton, a place he patroned for 50 years. Fred was known for telling jokes, having a good time, and making people laugh. His family is going to greatly miss him and his big personality.


Fred is survived by his former wife, Diane Moore (Gary) Sams, daughters, Tricia Meckfessel (Tom) Gulyas and Cynthia Meckfessel (Ryan) Volz, siblings, John “Mike” Meckfessel and Kimberly (Mark) Bebow, and nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Cheri Rowe and Scott Meckfessel.


A Celebration of Life for Fred will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Bel Mel’s Tavern in Port Clinton. Memorial contributions in memory of Fred can be given to a charity of the donor’s choice. Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, Oak Harbor is assisting the family with arrangements.
