Fredrick E. “Fred” Kohlman, 74, of Oak Harbor, OH passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Mercy Health - St. Charles Hospital, Oregon, OH. He was born on March 31, 1950 in Toledo, OH to Elmer and Virginia (Mollett) Kohlman. Fred graduated from Oak Harbor High School in 1968 and attended Owens Community College and The Ohio State University. He worked as a lifelong farmer and truck driver. Fred had a true love for farming and working in the dirt, planting, and harvesting. He did a lot of truck driving as well around the country, hauling hay, straw, and steel. In his younger years Fred was very active in 4-H showing his steers and was super involved with the tractor pulls at the Ottawa County Fair and the Tractor Rodeos, even competing at the State level. Fred enjoyed building Derby cars as well and liked to hunt and be outdoors. He was also affectionally known as “Papa” to his grandkids and great grandkids, “Freeze” to many in his younger years, and also as “White Rock” to many others.
Fred loved being with his family more than anything. He was extremely proud of his daughter, Renee, for everything she has accomplished in her life and especially the family she has raised along with her husband, Pat. Their boys Nathan & Seth, and great grandkids, Kaycee & Myles were Fred’s pride and joy and he enjoyed going to all of their school and sporting events. Fred was an F.F.A. member growing up and was glad to see his grandsons become members as well. They all liked to go to the F.F.A. State Conventions together, as well as work on Derby cars and attend the Farm Science Review together. Fred loved the fact that his grandkids learned skilled trades and are going to continue in the Kohlman family legacy of the farming life.
Fred was very patriotic and proud of his country and very grateful to the Veterans who have served in protecting it. He loved talking politics and was a staunch Republican who wasn’t afraid to share his viewpoint but was always interested in having civil discussions and debates. He was known to be stubborn and bull-headed, but those that knew him well considered him the salt of the Earth. Fred was a faithful person and a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor. He was also a member of the Eagles Arie in Fremont, OH. Fred enjoyed getting out and getting to see and talk with people, who always remembered him throughout his travels. He always enjoyed the Kohlman family reunions and getting to see all of his extended family. He really liked sitting around the campfires at the Fair and getting to reminisce with everyone.
Fred is survived by his daughter, Renee (Patrick) Moore, grandchildren, Nathan (Sara) Moore and Seth Moore, great grandchildren, Kaycee Moore and Myles Moore, siblings, James Kohlman and Kathleen (Bill) Kohlman-Cooke, nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his late best friend dog, “Lady”.
