Frederick Arthur Young, age 88, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at the Regency Hospital of Toledo with his wife of nearly 65 years, Martha by his side. A lifelong resident of Toledo, he was born at home to Fred J. and Erna (Calcamuggio) Young on May 4, 1927. He attended Franklin and Garfield Elementary Schools and was a 1946 graduate of Waite High School. On March 17, 1951 he married his grade school sweetheart and love of his life, Martha Boden. He attended the University of Toledo and graduated from the U.S. Army School of High Finance in Bad Nauheim, Germany. He proudly served in the United States Army (Korean War) as a member of the American Occupational Forces Vienna Military Post, Austria. During World War II he served in the Great Lakes Merchant Marine on freighters for the Cleveland Cliffs and Pittsburgh Steamship companies. A talented accountant and business man, Frederick leaves a legacy when, as Chief Fiscal Officer (City Auditor) for the City of Toledo, he modernized the citys accounting systems, changed the pay schedule from bi-monthly to bi-weekly, and initiated payroll deductions. Outside of the office he had many interests, including economics politics, photography, and the arts and sciences. He was a life time member of the Oregon-Jerusalem Historical Society and a trustee of the Western Lake Erie Historical Society. Frederick was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rosann Timmons and Marilyn Schuster; brother, Richard O. Young; half-sisters, Viola Williams, and Maudena Mayback; and half-brother, Paul A. Young. He is survived by his wife, Martha; sister, Juanita (Edward) Barnes; as well as, other family members, many friends and his furried pets. Special thanks to friends Rosemary and Steve, Klorer, Ethel, Huff, Kathy Clark and others for their many efforts on our behalf; as well as, the staff and doctors on Cardio 2, Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and Regency Hospital for their exceptional care for Frederick. Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave (west of Corey) from 1-2PM, where a memorial service will be held at 2:00PM. A private burial service was held by the family. Memorials may be made to the organization of the donors choosing. Good night, Sweet Prince: And flights of Angels take thee to thy rest.
