Frederick Edward Sullivan, 66, of Maumee, Ohio, passed away on September 13, 2023. Fred was born on March 19, 1957, in Wilmington, Delaware, to his late parents, Frederick William and Ruth Marion (Swavely) Sullivan. His family moved to Maumee, and he later attended Maumee High School. After school, Fred began a 43 year-long career working at AJ Boellner’s as a farm machinery mechanic before retiring. He met and fell in love with Rosemary (Breece) Sullivan in 1987, marrying her on April 29, 1989. Together they raised their two daughters, Angelia and Chelsey, and he loved them more than anything.
Fred had a special love for riding bicycles and really enjoyed refinishing them with his daughters as well as his grandson, Clyde. Fred, affectionately known as ‘Farmer Fred’, was a lover of nature, toads, and had quite a green thumb, maintaining gardens all over the area and even farmed small fields, and was a member of the Seed Saver Exchange Club where he grew many different varieties of corn and potatoes, even breeding some of his own seeds. He gained a love for gardening while growing up from his grandfather and parents which he carried on as a hobby throughout adulthood. For many years, he tended the Three Sisters Gardens at Fort Meigs, Perrysburg, Wolcott House in Maumee, Seven Eagles in Grand Rapids, as well as the 577 Foundation in Perrysburg. At home he had a vegetable garden and loved to put his family to work when it came to preparing and storing them. His father-in-law got him into raising chickens with his daughters and he did for many years until he got in trouble with the city. Some years later his daughters found out pigeons are legal to have in Maumee and his father-in-law got him and his daughters into showing pigeons and raising them for white dove releases. He did storytelling at the Ghostwalk in Fort Meigs and occasionally at a local nursing home.
Fred was always talented at building things, especially out of old pallet wood, and earned the nickname ‘Freddy the Freeloader’ as a young boy by roaming construction sites and bargaining with the workers to let him take home their scraps. He kept the hobby all throughout adulthood and never failed to impress his family with his creations. Fred loved his entire family dearly and will be extremely missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary Sullivan; daughters, Angelia Sullivan, Chelsey Sullivan; grandson, Clyde William Moore; siblings, Elizabeth (Tracy) Elliott, Sarah Sullivan, Edward (Carol) Sullivan; nieces and nephews, Tiffany, Elek, Lindsey (Christian), Brody, Dylan, Carly, James (Kelly), Kellen, Emilie, Kelli (Tyree), Alexiandra (Don), Ace, Terrel Jr., Candy (Bobby), Anna, Hunter, Brent (Elizabeth), Mattie, Scott Jr. (Madonna), Amelia Grace, Tammy, Ethan, Nicholas; in-laws, Scott (Pat) Breece, Diane Williamson.
