Frederick A Sloyer

Frederick A. Sloyer, 68, of Walbridge, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Mercy Medical Center. Fred was born July 18, 1948 to Joseph and Marilyn (Shumaker) Sloyer in Galion, Ohio. Fred attended Lake High School where he excelled in all sports, particularly basketball, and as a catcher on the baseball team, which upon graduation, earned him a Minor League contract with his beloved Detroit Tigers. He played one season before injuring his shoulder. He then began his lifelong passion for service. Fred entered the U.S. Air Force in 1967, where he proudly served for 4 years. He then became a Policeman and Volunteer Fireman in Walbridge, Ohio, a Toledo EMT and a Firefighter for Ottawa Hills Fire Department where he retired in 2004 as Assistant Fire Chief. He was a member of the Walbridge VFW #9963 Honor Guard and a Walbridge Village Councilman. Fred had a passion for golf, woodworking and helping family. He could be called anytime, day or night for assistance. Fred will be sadly missed by family, friends and all who knew him. His woodworking projects and love of family, friends and life will live on in our hearts. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Keri (Jason) McCoy and Kendra (Jake) Bowe; grandchildren, Alyssa McCoy, John McCoy, and Adyson Bowe; sisters, Victoria (Jeff) Kutz and Linda (John) Gregory; aunt, Cathy Lenhart; lady friend, Linda Martens; special niece, Allie Vance; special nephew, Logan Vance; many loving nieces and nephews; and four-legged friend, Riley. Friends will be received on Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 2:00-8:00 PM at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 701 N. Main Street, Walbridge, Ohio (419-666-3121) with a VFW service beginning at 7:00 PM and Fireman’s Last call service beginning at 7:15 PM. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Martin Pennington officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park, Perrysburg.
