Frederick W. Schmidt

Frederick Fred Schmidt passed away Monday, July 7, 2014 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania.  Fred was born December 28, 1943 in Toledo to Garland and Florence (Tarr) Schmidt.  He graduated from Woodward High School in 1962 and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  He worked at the Chrysler Jeep in Toledo, retiring in 2003.  Fred enjoyed playing cards (especially Texas Hold Em and Solitaire), shooting pool, bowling, golf, reading and watching westerns.  He was a longtime member of American Legion Pond Post 99 and VFW Post 3265.  Fred will be remembered for his strong-will, determination and fun-loving sense of humor. Fred is lovingly survived by his wife, Evelyn P. Evie Schmidt; son, Jason Schmidt; daughter, Nicole (Dean Christian) Schmidt; grandchildren, Mariah Schmidt (his Princess), Jason Schmidt, Jr., Trey Schmidt, Dean Christian, Jr., Tyson Christian, and Randall Christian; and his almost daughter, Sarah Kansorka.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, James, Gerald, and Donald Schmidt. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at the Walker Funeral Home, 5155 Sylvania Ave. (west of Corey Rd.) where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.  Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
