Frederick Paul Miller

September 20, 1947 — December 15, 2024

Frederick Paul Miller, 77, was born September 20, 1947, to Thelma Elaine (Moser) and Frederick A. “Fritz” Miller. He lived his life surrounded by his 6 siblings, their growing families, and many, many very good friends. He died from ALS on December 15, 2024.

Fred graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1965. During his high school years, he caddied at local country clubs which grew into a lifelong love for the game. Fred looked forward to annual golf trips at Gull Lake with his UPS friends, playing in leagues and especially a game with his good friends on a beautiful day.

After high school he attended the University of Toledo for a year before joining the Army in September, 1966. He joined the 82nd Airborne and was transferred to the 101st Airborne Division as an infantryman. On December 3, 1967, he arrived in Vietnam. His two best friends and many others were killed. Fred was only wounded, receiving a purple heart, which made him view each day as a gift.

After returning home, Fred married and had two sons, Brian and Eric. He started working at UPS while earning his Bachelors in secondary education at UT. Fred liked working at UPS and retired from there after 36 years.

In 1986, Fred met his wife and best friend, Lynn. He was her UPS driver. They married in Jamaica in 1998. They enjoyed traveling together, trips to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, road trips across the United States and winters in Florida.

Fred enjoyed rafting on the Youghiogheny in Southwest PA and canoeing on the Fox River in the UP. He filled his life sharing so many special times; a Caribbean cruise with 6 crazy couples, OSU/Michigan parties, Xmas progressive dinner parties, group vacations at Fort Myers beach. So much love and laughter. A highlight of his life was when Fred became a grandfather at the age of 75 to Giovanni.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers- in-law, Jim Moriarty and John Ando. He is survived by his wife, Lynn Wilkins; sons Brian Miller, Eric (Clara Vargas) Miller, and grandson Giovanni Miller. Also surviving are his siblings Toni Moriarty, Susan Dzikowski, Dawn Ando, Prudy Jefferys, Marc (Janet) Miller, Timothy (Carole) Miller as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Sandy, Fred’s respiratory therapist, and his hospice nurses, Rich and Kathy. Their compassion and expert care made it possible for Fred to pass peacefully.
